Museo di Penone & Cafe Penone
While studying abroad in Florence, Italy my Junior year, the project was to create a new space within an old train station. The topic of our construction was a museum. The first half of the semester was a group project where we worked on the layout and main architecture points of the space. At this point of the process my main focus was layout along with implementing sustainable attributes and focusing on the show stopping staircase that catches your eye as you enter into the main gallery. The second half of the semester we were given a certain space to work on individually. My space was the cafe. By using the same aesthetics that both the museum and the artist have. The project is created and rendered in Autodesk Revit.

Inspiration was taken from the Ponte Vecchio, a historical bridge of Florence that shows variation of new and old. On the bridge the shops are made of deep rich woods with wrought iron detailing. As sturdy as these elements are, within these shops is delicate gold jewelry. The light captures the shining gold and diamonds in contrast to the rich wood and iron. By bring these contrasting elements into our design, we are able to convey an upscale and rich stimulating design.

Final process sketch is a pod like staircase. This idea was derived from a Giuseppe Penone piece titled The Imprint of Drawing. In this piece, there are layers of pulp in circular motions.

Upscale and rich in tones, a sophisticated addition of the museum.
